Best Ways to Stay in Shape While Staying at-Home

  1. Do your favorite exercise at-home. Whether that’s doing BBG in your bedroom, HIIT in the garage or pilates in the living room, do something that you enjoy and makes your body happy. My favorite type of workout hands down is Barre! I started going to classes regularly towards the end of 2019 and have been absolutely loving it! Since all workout studios have been closed for the time being, I have been loving taking my studio’s classes online. If you don’t have a barre membership, your studio doesn’t offer online sessions or you’ve never taken a barre class and want to try it out, I found an Instagram account called BarreRoom that goes live every day and shares a new workout. The best part is, it’s completely FREE and requires little to no equipment! I probably do one or two of the barreroom workouts each week to switch things up.
  2. Go for a walk. I aim to get outside at least once a day, even if it’s only for a couple of minutes. It’s so important for your health and well-being to get outside, get some fresh air, and get your body moving. Mike and I like going on walks around our neighborhood together (staying at least 6 feet apart from anyone we pass by) or if I go on a walk by myself, I’ll listen to a good playlist or my favorite podcast. If you’re not big into going on walks, try calling a family member or friend and pace around your home while talking to them. You’ll end up getting in lots of steps without realizing it.
  3. Learn a new (tiktok) dance that you’ve always wanted to try. Honestly, it’s so much fun and you’ll get a good workout, trust me 😅.
  4. Tell someone your plans of working out or what your fitness goals are and make sure they hold you accountable. Better yet, challenge a friend to (virtually) work out with you “X” amount of days next week and stick to the plan.
  5. Be mindful of how much you’re actually eating. It’s so easy to mindlessly eat during the day, especially out of boredom or stress. I’m 100% guilty of doing this at times and I think everyone can also agree they do this as well. And while I’m not saying you can never indulge, in fact, I think it’s super important to let yourself eat whatever you want sometimes without feeling guilty. I’m just saying that I think a lot of people don’t realize just how much they’re actually eating throughout the day. I recommend jotting down everything you eat during a given day and see where you’re at with your dietary consumption needs. I feel like having that visual of everything written down really helps to visualize things.
